The right time to invest

Investing would be simple if you could always pick the best time to buy and sell. However, timing the market in this way is difficult. A better approach for most investors is dollar cost averaging. Click here to discover how dollar cost averaging works.

Regular investment plans

BT has a regular investment facility which allows you to make regular contributions automatically from your bank account. There are two advantages to this:

1. You are using the powerful dollar cost averaging technique; and
2. It's an easy way to be disciplined about your regular investments - you don't miss the money as much, and you're not tempted to spend it before you invest it.

Generally you can start with as little as $1,000, or with regular investments of as little as $100 a month directly from your bank account. Fund managers will usually let you vary or suspend your regular investment at any time if your circumstances change.
